Make Up/Costume/Set Design

Main Character

Our main character, the "Charming Man" of the title (ironic as he would not be seen as charming at all), is a chav. While this may seem like an unusual choice, especially for a video for an indie song, the chav is a typical British figure recognized by most people, and watching him try and fail to associate himself with the people the target audience see as "cool" has some comedy value. He will be dressed in cheap clothes, probably purchased from Sports Direct, tracksuit bottoms, Puma or Donnay polo shirts and a burberry cap. This costume will set him apart from the other actors in the video and show he is different.

Indie Band/Actors

The band and actors will be dressed very differently to the chav. To fit with the target audience and their expectations we will dress our band and actors in the clothes that they dress in. We will dress the band in checked shirts, polos, skinny jeans, chinos and other "smart casual" clothing. This presents a much more 'dignified' image to that of the chav and shows that they are the 'cool' people of the video. Bands that influence this image are Vampire Weekend (pictured), Two Door Cinema club and The Smiths themselves.

Set Design

Our performance set will be inside a house, to give an "intimate gig" and "house party" feel. We will also have some extras dancing in the long shots. The main narrative element of our video will be set on the streets around this house, to allow for easier shooting.
